Concert Hall 26/27
The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam is really something of a holy grail of classical music. I think it’s every musician or singer’s dream to perform there one day. And now that’s going to happen! Next season, I’ll have the opportunity to sing at the Concertgebouw twice(!). In September, during the NTR Saturday Matinee, I’ll be singing the role of Juliette in Korngold’s *Die tote Stadt*. In January, I’ll be giving my own recital as part of the Jonge Nederlanders series. “What’s your dream program?” the programmer asked me this fall. Of course, I had to answer with *La voix humaine*. That piece by Poulenc is such a pinnacle of music and theater, drama and theatricality. I asked pianist Philipp Solle if he’d like to perform it with me, and he said yes without hesitation. We brainstormed a suitable combination to round out the evening. He told me about his favorite work: a song cycle by Lili Boulanger, *Clairières dans le ciel*. Beautiful, and also very personal music. Where Poulenc bursts in every direction, Boulanger is more reflective, subdued. I am incredibly looking forward to this beautiful music and these incredibly exciting events.
